For this blog, I made a survey to figure out what my target audience is and what they are interested in. This will help me know what to talk about in my magazine to keep them hooked and entertained by the content. It contains 15 questions and my goal was to have more than 20 responses, in the end I got 21 responses. I attempted to send it to many people, but the results might not be completely reliable because I know a limited number of adults, which is who I suspect my main audience will be. Most of the people who completed the form are my friends which also might of caused bias in the results. Now, lets analyze my questions, the purpose they serve, and the results. Here is the list of my questions and the link to my questionnaire:

  1. What is your gender?

  2. What age group do you belong to?

  3. What is your ethnicity?

  4. Are you interested in fashion magazines?

  5. Do you take fashion advice?

  6. Which fashion style do you shop for?

  7. What is your favorite season for fashion?

  8. What do you prefer when it comes to text to picture ratios in a magazine?

  9. How much do you spend on a clothing item?

  10. Would you be interested in a fashion magazine based on empowering Hispanic entrepreneur women?

  11. How often do you buy clothes?

  12. Where do you buy clothes?

  13. Which items do you buy the most often?

  14. How important is affordability in fashion to you?

  15. Do you prefer a digital or printed magazine?

Now lets analyze each questions responses:

  1. I chose to ask about someone's age because it plays a big part in their responses. As we can see the majority (95.2%) of responders were women because I have found that women are typically most interested in a fashion magazine empowering other women. Another reason the results are mostly women is because most people I know are female.

  1. The age group they belong to also plays a big role. I know middle aged women would be the most interested but I do not know many. My solution was asking my mother to send the form to her friends and employees. This worked well but the majority (47.6%) were still those I sent it to who belong to the age group 15-20. However, the next big age groups are 41-50 (33.3%) and 50+ (9.5%). The next responses will therefore accurately show me what my target audience likes.

  1. Ethnicity was asked because how you were raised and what ethnic group you identify as greatly impacts your interests. Since my magazine is based on Hispanic women, I assume Hispanic women would also be the ones interested in it. The results may be flawed because my mother and I know few people who are not Hispanic, so that is why 95.2% of the responders are Hispanic.

  1. This question was straight to the point. I wanted to know off the bat if they would be interested in my magazine. 85.7% said they would be interested, but that means 14.3% aren't. Those who aren't could be the people my age who aren't my target audience and it can also be the male that took the survey. I found this response to be reassuring as to who would be interested in my magazine.

  1. I asked this question so I could know if the purpose of the fashion in my magazine would be to entertain or to influence. Although I still haven't completely decided, the results are making me lean more towards to influence. Only about 9% of responders said they never or rarely take fashion advice. 91% chose that they take fashion advice sometimes, often, and all the time. This tells me that they might look at my magazine for more than entertainment, like inspiration.

  1. This question was meant to solidify the fact that my target audience looks more for formal and business clothes. The results made the hypothesis look false, but we have to keep in mind the majority of those who filled out this form are from 15-20 age group, which we expect to be attracted to casual clothing. Due to this, we can assume that the 52% who answered casual are the big portion of teenagers filling out this form. This means that 48% of the responders will be interested in the fashion that my magazine will consist of.

  1. Business fashion a very vague guide for the outfits my models will be wearing. The purpose of this question was to give me more of a guide for the pallets of the outfits. I did not want to give people specific colors to choose from since that would limit me, so I offered seasons. The results are not extremely helpful since they are somewhat even. Summer was the most popular option with a 42% followed by winter with a 28%. Fall and Spring received a 14% each.

  1. This question was meant to give me a guide as to how much text people would like in a magazine. 0% of responders chose big paragraphs. 85% wanted small paragraphs and big pictures and 14% chose that it depends on how interesting the magazine is. Now I know that most of my audience will likely be uninterested if there is too much text in my magazine and it is something I should keep in mind once I finish my research and begin the creative process.

  1. Since in a previous question I asked if they would be open to receiving advice, and most people were, it gives this question a lot of importance. If my audience is looking at the outfits for inspiration, I need to keep in mind the price of the outfits. 42% spend from $100-$200 on clothing. This gives me room from $10-$200 when choosing outfits that my audience will still be interested in. As predicted, 0% chose $500+, however 19% of people chose $1-$20 which means they will likely not buy what is on my magazine considering that business clothes are not that price.

  1. This question was more straightforward than "Are you interested in fashion magazines?" After asking many questions related to fashion, I just decided to plainly ask if they would be interested in my magazine. Thankfully, 85% of the responders answered affirmatively. This further reassures me that I have successfully captured my target audience.

  1. This question was meant to give me more insight on how my audience feels about shopping and buying mew clothes. Most responders (86%) buy clothes a minimum of once a month. This means that 14% of responders chose that they only buy clothes when I really need it. This doesn't really affect the results because they may still look at my magazine for entertainment purposes solely.

  1. I asked this question to have more of a guide as to how I describe the clothes and where they are from in the text of the magazine. If a lot of people would've chosen online, then I would have ensured to use clothes where the store has an online option. That was not the case, majority of responders chose that they shop in person and online, more specifically, they answered: "Anywhere I see something I like". This gives me less to worry about when choosing the outfits I have my models wear.

  1. Knowing what item people are more interested in buying gives me a more direct guide on what my models will wear. Turns out, 100% of respondents buy shirts often. Pants was also very popular, getting 71% of respondents to choose it. The popularity after from most to least goes shoes, jewelry, and then dresses. This is upsetting because I wanted to use dresses in the photoshoots as well, but this changed my plans.

  1. I realize now reviewing the responses that this question is not very helpful since a previous question already covered the financial aspect of clothing. However, it does serve as a reminder to be mindful of prices since the most chosen option was that affordability is very important to them. Just one of the responses was that it isn't important to them, so I need to keep this in mind in the future.

  1. This question was also just to calm my nerves because even if everyone chose that they preferred printed magazines, there isn't really anything I can do about that. Thankfully, only one person chose printed magazines. The rest of responders chose either digital or "either one".

In conclusion, this questionnaire validated what I thought and gave me a deeper insight as to who my target audience is and what they prefer. Something I need to take away from this is to research how much the articles of clothing cost and to choose things that are affordable. Another thing is to not include dresses since most of my audience is not attracted to them. This form was extremely helpful and I am excited to see if they like the final product.
