Picking the genre for my magazine will likely be the hardest part of creating my magazine, as I am indecisive. The purpose of this blog is to facilitate the picking process. In this post, I will be choosing 4 genres and researching them. While researching, I will keep in mind the pros and cons of each. I've narrowed down the 4 genres to: Cooking Food & Beverage, Fashion & Style, Teen, and Home & Garden.
Cooking Food & Beverage

The aspect I find most intriguing about this genre is the different routes I can take it. I can make recipes on either lunches, dinners, snacks, or desserts. I can even make mocktails. Choosing this would push me to learn more about cooking, which has always been a goal of mine. If I choose this genre for my magazine, I would include my Cuban culture. I'd likely make classic Cuban recipes with the purpose of passing them down to prevent them from getting forgotten.
Fashion & Style

To be completely honest, this was the first genre I envisioned myself doing. I would be interested in making my magazine about business casual or business formal outfits, how to choose them, and maybe where to buy them. I have even researched places near me where I can have a photo-shoot, and I know exactly who my models can be. While researching covers, I was very intrigued by the clean look of them.
Teen

This genre is different from the others for one simple reason: I can relate to it. As a teenage girl, I know what other girls my age find interesting, because I find it interesting. So, instead of envisioning what would interest my audience, I can just think of what would interest me. This would most likely greatly improve the quality of my magazine. Captions have always been difficult for me to write, because it just sounds like I am stating the obvious. However, if I do this magazine genre, I'd know just what to write to intrigue the reader because, again, I am the target audience.
Home & Garden

Choosing Home & Garden as my genre would be very convenient because of the fact that I live in Miami. There are plenty of beautiful places with flowers and even gardens where I can take photos. I love flowers and decorating so learning more about this topic for the purpose of my magazine would be an enjoyable process for me. I also really like the simplicity of the covers for this genre. This cover calls my attention more than the teen one because it isn't overwhelming.
As previously stated, this post served as a stepping stool to choose the genre of my magazine. I am still not completely decided on which one, but I now have two top choices. I will either do Cooking Food & Beverages or Fashion & Design. If I do Cooking Food & Beverages, I'll base it on spreading my Cuban cultures recipes. If I do Fashion & Design, I will give inspiration and tips on business casual and business formal outfits.
